It appears that some among the Thessalonians had misunderstood what Paul had taught them and by what he had written in 1 Thessalonians, regarding the coming of Christ. Some were now thinking that it was about to happen, that Christ was ready to appear and judge. There had been some among them that pretended they had special revelation to add to Paul's message about the second coming. Paul needed to clarify their misunderstandings.
