If you were a slave, what would be your #1 priority in life? Wouldn't it be to be set free? But here we see your #1 priority should be devotion to God, not freedom, as challenging as that might be.
The principle here is we all have goals, much of the time to change our state. When you are a slave, you want to be free. When you are single, you want to be married. When you are married, you want children. When you have a job, you want a better one. When you have a home, you want a better one. It is okay to have goals? Yes - See vs 28, and Psa 37:4 "Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart." But all these goals must pale in comparison to your passion and devotion to Christ.
